Summer 2018 was filled with so many exciting things and we can't wait to share what's happening this fall.
ABP at Austin Pride and forward
Austin Black Pride wants to thank all of you for coming to Drip Drop II and Our Black Brunch during Austin Pride week. We had over 400 people attend Drip Drop and over 70 people at Our Black Brunch. With the outpouring of love, support, and demand we are excited to announce that we will be increasing the amount of events we have throughout the year.
Their Black Brunch Tillery Kitchen and Bar Sunday, Sept. 16 1 pm
Join us once a quarter for a gathering of our black non-binary, intersex, and trans+ communities to catch up and make new friends in a relaxed, laidback environment. Don't wish to eat, feel free to join us anyway just to kick it... We'll be hanging out afterwards for a little Sunday Funday!
While we appreciate our allies this event is specifically geared towards black nonbinary, intersex, and trans+ communities!
Thirst Trap: Day Party with DJ Nevo Hangar Lounge Saturday, Sept. 22 3 pm
We're finally throwing a party on 4th St! We're taking over the rooftop of Hangar Lounge for the first installment of our new day party series #ThirstTrap. You've been to #DripDrop and you know how wild it gets, the DAY PARTY alternative is a must-attend event.
You'll also be able to choose your wristband: Green = single and ready to mingle Yellow = it's complicated, but let's talk Red = just here to party.
Rollin' on the River Texas Rowing Center Sunday, Sept. 23 10 am
Join us for some fun in the sun while we kayak Lady Bird Lake on September 23rd from 10 am - 12 pm.
Kayaking is a low impact activity that can improve your aerobic fitness, strength, and flexibility. It’s also fun and relaxing! Beginners to Experts are welcome.
Show this event flyer for a discounted price (2 hours for price of 1). Kayak prices begin at $10 an hour.
Melanin Book Club Out Youth Thursday, Oct. 11 7:30 pm
Join us on the first Thursday of every month for Austin Black Pride's Melanin Book Club. Septembers book is Daniel Black's "Perfect Peace", a heartbreaking portrait of a large, rural southern family's attempt to grapple with their mother's desperate decision to make her newborn son into the daughter she will never have.
New members are welcome at any time. We will meet in October to discuss "Perfect Peace" and introduce November's book "No Bonds so Strong" by Tarik Daniels (@Mistertelltales).
Light refreshments will be available. Be sure to check out our Facebook Events page for more upcoming events. As always don't forget to use #AustinBlackPride and #ATXBlackPride and to tag us,@ATXBlackPride , in your photos from our events.
Austin Black Pride is proud of the community of patrons who attend our events and supporters who donate to us. As a way to build community and support those who support us we have created Feature Friday. Each week, we will highlight a member of the Austin queer community. By giving these weekly shout outs we hope to introduce our supporters to each other and create space for conversation. Feature Friday will happen every Friday, on our Instagram and Facebook page.
Our first Feature Friday will be coming out this Friday, September 14 and we will be highlighting Sam Davis! Sam is a black, gender non-binary educator whose passion project is diversity inclusion. Make sure you are following our social media accounts so that you don't miss it.
If you are interested in being highlighted in Feature Friday please click the link and fill out the form.
